BENDIGO FIREWOOD AND SOIL

About our Firewood.

Most of our firewood comes from the northern NSW coastal region of Grafton, with permission from the Forestry Corporation of NSW

Until now, the wood we supply has been a waste product of the timber industry.

The long, straight logs are used in various industries, including the building industry.

The remaining timber, which was previously discarded, we now use as an efficient, cost effective source of energy to heat your home.

The varieties of NSW coastal hardwood we supply include Blackbutt, Stringybark, Spotted Gum and Flooded Gum .

We burn these different types of firewood in our own home, as they produce a high amount of heat and little ash, which makes them good value firewood.

Some of our high quality firewood varieties.

BLACKBUTT

Eucalyptus campanulata, commonly referred to as the New England Blackbutt.

Eucalyptus campanulata, or the New England Blackbutt, stands out as a premier choice for firewood due to its high calorific value, slow and consistent burning, low smoke production, and sustainability. These characteristics make it not only an efficient and effective source of heat but also an environmentally responsible choice. As the demand for renewable and eco-friendly heating options continues to grow, the New England Blackbutt represents an ideal solution, combining performance with sustainability to meet the heating needs of consumers in an environmentally conscious manner.

STRINGYBARK

Eucalyptus agglomerata, commonly known as Stringybark.

Eucalyptus agglomerata, or Stringybark, is an excellent choice for firewood due to its high calorific value, slow and consistent burning, low smoke production, and environmental sustainability. These characteristics make it not only an efficient and effective source of heat but also a responsible choice from an ecological perspective.  By choosing Stringybark firewood, consumers can enjoy the warmth and comfort it provides while supporting sustainable forestry practices and contributing to the health of the planet.

More

SUGARGUM

Eucalyptus cladocalyx, commonly known as Sugargum.

We have been extremely lucky to have purchased a sizeable, purpose planted local plantation.
Sugargum
is a great burning wood that is easy to start, and is fast getting a well deserved reputation as a great alternative to Redgum.

More

YELLOW BOX

Eucalyptus melliodora, commonly known as Yellow Box.

Our Yellow Box wood is sourced from the Liverpool Plains in northern NSW.

We collect this timber from local farmers who have cleared their paddocks to enable broad acre cropping.
Yellow Box is a very dense wood and has a high 'weight to cubic metre' ratio. This can make its price per metre appear high, but if you are after a consistent, long, slow burning fire to keep your house warm all day and night, it's a great choice.
